Logging on to the CS UNIX machine at OSU from a Lab on campus

When you are using the Vi editor with a UNIX machine, you usually must use the h, j, k, and l keys to move around in the document.  However, these instructions will allow you to use the arrow keys on your keyboard instead.

  1. Click on Start
  2. Next, click on Host & Internet
  3. Choose LanWorkPlace Pro
  4. Click on 3270-IBM
  5. Next, in the Open New Session, pick the TN3270 COMSCI option in Profiles
  6. Choose Terminal Type VT (VT52 ==> VT420)
  7. Choose Terminal Model  VT 100 (See Figure 1)
  8. Next, choose the Connect button.
  9. You should now get to the sign in screen for the CS UNIX machine.
  10. If you login this way, you can use the arrow keys in the vi editor.
