Logging on to the Computer Science Departmental Computer at Home

 

These are some instructions on logging on to the Computer Science Departmental (CSA)  computer at home when using the Windows environment.  NOTE: THESE MAY NOT WORK WITH ALL VERSIONS OF WINDOWS.  

This setup will allow you to access the CSA machine and also use the Arrow keys with the Vi editor instead of the h, j, k. l keys. 

 

 

1. Click on the Start button at the left bottom of the screen.

2.  Click on the Run option when the list of choices appears.

3.  Type in: telnet a.cs.okstate.edu   in the “Open” box.  (Figure 1)

4.  Click on the OK button.

5.  You will now get a Telnet screen.  See Figure 2.  

6.  Click on the Terminal button in the menu bar. 

7.  Click on Preferences option.

8.   You should now see a Terminal Preferences dialog box.  See Figure 3. 

9.   In the Terminal Options box, click on the VT 100 Arrows  selection.

10.  Click on the VT-100/ANSI button in the Emulation box.

11.  Click on the OK button.

You should now type in your login name and password.   Once you have used this setup, it should stay that way and you should not have to re-enter the setup again.
