This program provides an environment for minority undergraduate students to experience research in applied and experimental computer science. The major components of the REU program are a summer research project and a one day mini-seminar during the academic year. Participants are given a well-defined research project and participate in continuing research projects. Participants have an opportunity to interact with faculty and graduate students. The REU projects allow the REU participants to be co-authors of journal and/or conference papers. The summer experience provides encouragement for the participants to continue their education into graduate school and to think about research careers. The program is highly selective, limited to a maximum of ten students annually.
